“I think this group touches on some interesting abstract ideas, but the idea of arriving at objective typings of people is pretty silly. I think what this group (and other groups like them) are doing is they’re choosing to identify as certain types (however inadvertently, through having other people in the group or experts type them), and in doing so, collectively placing themselves at a particular angle through which they’re viewing the illusory form of essence. But in placing themselves collectively at the same angle and getting more and more people on board, they’re creating the illusion that essences have objective form. I think this is what people who write about spiral dynamics mean by “green” creating an “orange bubble” for certainty. That’s not to say that their take on the enneagram isn’t fascinating – but it can only ever be a partial perspective. When you type people with a system that compares them in terms of a hierarchical ordering of numbers – that sort of truth can only ever occur from an orange perspective. Truth beyond green is more subtle…it doesn’t have the form of an orange objectivist system.”
