Better ones out there
James might have the only podcast specifically aimed at fitness for mountain bikers, but it's tough to take him seriously. I'm impressed by his focus on functional movement, and he seems to know exercise moves. But I'm less impressed with his nutrition advice. For that, I recommed the "Get Fit Guy" and the "Nutrition Diva." They produce professional podcasts and state their sources of info. James needs to work on his delivery...too many "ums" and "and stuff like that." And I'm amazed at how little substance is actually in each episode....seems to be a lot of repetition. Sometimes a point has to be re-phrased to get it across, but James pretty much just rambles on stating the same idea or opinion over and over. Finally, while anyone who wants to make a name for themselves has to bring forward something unique, James seems to accomplish this simply by going against pretty much all conventionl wisdom. Not that the CW is always right, but James even belittle science, explaining that it is "reductionist by nature" and therefore unreliable (But he then goes on to back up his points with a vague ""lots of scientific studies show" type of comment. Theres a lot of podcasts to subscribe to out there. I gave this one a chance for several weeks before deciding it wasn't worth my time of iPod disc space. But judge for yourself...

James has very good content and some great guests on the show. Only thing keeping this from being 5 stars is the audio quality, which is pretty poor. Glad to see a new episode posted today and was hoping this continued.

I've been following James since first coming across an article on flat pedals that really opened my eyes up. Up until early 2013 I had never clipped in and was surprising people at XC races when beating them convincingly on flats, though had never heard any trainers approve of using flat pedals....Read full review »

When we hear the podcast talking, regarding performance, about “tension” and avoiding any discussion over heart rate, we simply cannot apply any of those general terms to our training. If you count that most of us, we don´t have power meters and we work on Training Peaks TSS based on heart...Read full review »
