This podcast has helped me fall back in love with my brain.
As a 5th grader, I discovered the brain. While most kids were watching The Brady Bunch and Hong Kong Phooey, I was gobbling up abnormal psychology books and medical texts on the brain which my older siblings brought home on breaks from college and medical school. I was fascinated with the idea that behaviors, thoughts, memories could be associated with certain structures; that you could take an electric probe and elucidate memories, stimulate emotions, create sensory hallucinations. The fascination never left me and I eventually went to medical school and became a psychiatrist. The rigors of medical school, residency, and the grim realities of helping individuals with serious mental illness for the past twenty years have, at times, dimmed my childhood excitement and passion for learning about the brain. Then, I discovered Ginger's podcast. Her simple, yet intelligent and thorough approach to exploring a variety of topics associated with this complex organ has helped renew my joy of learning and I look forward to each podcast with that same childhood excitement! Thanks Ginger!Read full review »
