Being a progressive leader is not only about finding more seats at the table for everybody; sometimes, it is about repurposing the table. However, bringing down the walls surrounding a "things have always been like this" type of environment, although altruistic and heroic, is taxing for physical and mental health.
Today, I'm joined by the inspiring Kate Van Waes, CEO and Founder of Van Waes Consulting, LLC, a woman and active-duty-owned independent leadership advisory consulting firm. Kate believes most progressive leaders don't have a supportive environment that encourages them to thrive and protects them from burnout. She specializes in retaining, empowering, and supporting progressive leaders committed to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility.
Throughout our conversation, Kate talks about her innate inclination to stand up for what she feels is right, even when it's the scariest thing to do, and how that personality trait molded her career. We also talk about progressive leaders, why they tend to be so prone to experience burnout, and what type of help Kate provides them to avoid it.
Additionally, Kate talks about her idea of creating an "Oceans' Eleven" team, the most significant lessons she learned along the way, her biggest fears, motherhood, and much more.
