Entertaining but Disappointing on Substance
This podcast is no doubt funny, and I commend Cam and Ray for their ingenuity in making history enjoyable. On the other hand, the podcast seems aimed primarily at entertainment and ideological lecturing (which isn't very interesting, nor well argued) and secondarily at disseminating information about the history (which as I'm realizing, can be distilled into maybe fifteen minutes per episode). What is more disappointing is that Cam and Ray are clearly not historical experts, and lack knowledge about basic facts; what they know they apparently got as a result of reading a few books before the podcast. Their political musings are fair (they are quite left-leaning), though simplistic and lack nuance; if this was a podcast on the superiority of communism I would give it one star: for that see something with richer argument and deeper representation of ideas. Finally, Cam and Ray spend much too much time on defending and explaining why they do things the way that they do, and unnecessarily emphasize (I believe falsely, or at the very least they exaggerate) how much people don’t know about what they are telling. They sometimes talk as though knowing the flavor of history which they present automatically induces belief or support in the political ideologies they espouse; of course they do not, but I worry if they think that saying ‘you didn’t know *this*’ will convince listeners to unquestioningly submit to some of their more philosophical points. If you don’t mind meandering tangents or a shameless bias with little in terms of content, then this podcast is otherwise very good.Read full review »

PS, dont listen if you are highly strung, oversensitive, super opinionated, nationalistic or think you know it all already. Just...Read full review »

Done in the irreverant tone of the host's ""Life of Caesar Podcast" the show offers an insightful look at the cold war. Lots of sex jokes combined with a serious analysis of the events and players.Read full review »

A brilliant podcast with the usual production value that I've come to expect from a Ray and Cam podcast. Comprehensively told. I think an important topic that still holds relevance in today's modern world. I was excited when the duo announced this show largly because it's a topic I don't know...Read full review »
