“Imagine if your two favorite history teachers were hanging out, drink a bit of limoncello, and decided to give an uncensored, well-researched, and well-sourced account of the entire Cold War, that would be Cam and Ray's Cold War Podcast. It comes complete with historical humor, swearing, dad jokes, and challenging your presumptions! Cam takes the lead, Ray adds in things, they take the piss out of each other, and play song clips as needed!
Skepticism and fact-checking are encouraged, as Cam tells us reguarly to not just take his word as truth, and to go read a book about it! (Speaking of which, I wish I'd started keeping a list of all the book recommendations that've been made since the beginning!) Furthermore, you can tell they genuinely care about their listeners and subscribers. (Oh, did I mention they give free subscriptions to students?! Thank you guys!)
I found Cam and Ray's Cold War Podcast whilst searching for podcasts discussing the Russian Revolution, which was a current topic in my political ideologies class. Immediately, I realized I'd found a gem and backtracked to start listening from the beginning, and I've LITERALLY been listening obsessively ever since. Now I'm finally getting around leaving a review, whilst cackling at their bio of Charles de Gaulle during WWI.
As an American millennial, any facts about the Cold War that I learned came from a short, immemorable, Americanized overview of it in my high school history class (plus decades of cultural references from the Simpsons). I've been learning loads from Cam and Ray and have really enjoyed the time I've spent listening to them!
