This Friday's check in is a little different - it's short and sweet, and recorded downtown with a bit of wind and the noise of people's activity around me. That was the point of this episode, so that's why I recorded it this way. After eighteen months of lockdown and quarantine, it's good to get back to normal a bit, even if that just means being where other people are, and taking it all in. chillthepodcast.com

Intimate, immersive and soothing, comfort audios are recordings in which a relaxing voice, male or female, speaks directly to you and helps you unwind, de-stress, fall asleep, or deal with a variety of issues. I'm joined by a male comfort audio performer, Dawn's Voice, who shares what kinds of audios he does, what he likes most about it, and how he became interested in it. You made it through another week! Small victories need to be celebrated, I think. Take a few minutes to take a deep breath and relax. And give some thought to how you can speak up for yourself, even when you can't say it out loud. chillthepodcast.com

Araby is the first story in a collection of short stories called Dubliners, by James Joyce. This is a poignant tale of a young boy's infatuation with a neighbour girl, and how he eventually comes to see the truth of it. Digging deeper, I believe this is a story about losing faith in the church, as Joyce often battled with himself and subsequently wrote about. Either way you look at it, its rich language and evocative descriptions will bring you back to Dublin in the 1880s. Find out more at...

There's no standard ideal out there, there's no 'proper' way to relax, unwind, de-stress. We can let our comparison culture influence us into thinking we need to be embracing the zen lifestyle like everyone else, but maybe it doesn't work for you. If it doesn't, it's okay. Do what works for you. ❤️ chillthepodcast.com

The Lady or the Tiger is a classic short story written by Frank R Stockton in 1882. Described as a 'whimsical tale about the dangers of choice and consequence', it remains an example of an unsolveable problem - at least to some people. I know which door I would choose...do you? Here's the full text of the story if you're interested - but read it later, after you've had a good night's sleep 💤 Please visit the show website, chillthepodcast.com

Time for another Friday Check In. Sometimes people put a lot of focus on each day they experience, much the way people who are trying to eat better sometimes focus on how many calories they had that particular day - and if the answer isn’t what they hoped for, in both cases, it can depress them and make them lose motivation. I’m going to suggest that if you are prone to assessing each day in terms of how well it went, or how well you did at something like calorie counting or quitting smoking...

Stress isn't just a buzzword, and it's not just about not being able to cope. It's a very real problem for most of us, and can lead to a lot of serious illnesses.  This week, take a few deep breaths with me, and do a quick body scan to see if there are any areas of your body where you carry stress.  I also talk about the wonders of massage therapy as a way of unwinding.

This beautiful script was written in 2017 by PadandPencil, but the images, thoughts and feelings within it are more relevant today than ever. All of us need a loving friend to be there for us, to comfort and love us and and share our troubles, and our dreams. Take a ten minute mental health break and enjoy feeling that loving comfort. ❤️

So how have you been doing this past week? Whether it was a good week, a bad week, or a so-so week, how have you been taking care of yourself this week? Have you made time for yourself, even if it’s only a few minutes? Have you taken the time to do something you enjoy? Think about this today, and throughout this next week. Have you enjoyed laughter? Have you taken deep breaths? Have you gotten enough rest? Maybe there’s something else you know you want to do for yourself, something that would...

This week I wanted to talk about making sure you have a reset button. A reset button, or a kill switch, or a stop sign, or whatever you choose to call it, is necessary for training your mind to stop all the negative self talk that goes on. I don’t even need to ask if you find yourself thinking negative thoughts about yourself, criticizing yourself, cringing at past mistakes or basically putting yourself down - I know you do. I do, we all do, it’s an unfortunate reality for most people, and...

Laughter is so good for our overall health, especially when we don't have much to laugh about. These softly-spoken audios will help you relax and sleep, or just take a much needed break. In this first episode of the series, I read How to Live to Be 200  from the collection Literary Lapses by Stephen Leacock (published 1910, now in the public domain.) Stephen Leacock ( 1869 - 1944) was a beloved Canadian humourist who wrote short stories and vignettes, often set in Mariposa, an imaginary...

This week, I want to remind you how amazing laughter is, and how important it is to laugh, a lot, and often! Laughter is remarkably good for your health. They’ve done studies on this, laughing actually lowers stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline, it gives a whole bunch of muscles a workout, all over your body. Have you ever laughed so much your knees hurt? Laughter can exercise your legs, your abs, your face, your back, everything. You bring in more oxygen when you laugh, which is...
