Top Notch Science Fiction and Fantasy!
In the midst of the podcasts available on iTunes, I find there only to be a few that stand out. Out of the few great that stand out, I find Clarkesworld to be the best. Not that there aren't other good podcasts out there. Although Lightspeed, Beneath Ceaseless Skies, and Podiobooks are also great outlets for your Fantasy and Science Fiction needs, I just find Clarkesworld top notch in what I have found on iTunes. I listen to a lot of audiobooks while I work at my desk job (I have an awesome boss, but enough gloating) and between books I find myself listening to or re-listening to many of the stories from Clarkesworld collection. I can't help but enjoy listening to a good tale of fantasy or science fiction with the wonderfully done narration performed by Kate Baker. If there is one thing that can make or break a story, it is the narrator. Kate always brings her best and I could listen to her all day. The stories read are also of high caliber. My favorites so far are "A Woman's Best Friend" by Robert Reed, an intriguing and sometimes very humorous retelling of It's A Wonderful Life with a very interesting sci-fi twist, and "The Things" by Peter Watts, a retelling of John Carpenters The Thing from the perspective of the alien. But retelling of movies we're familiar with aren't all Clarkesworld has to offer. Some of the stories are the most original material I have come across in years. "Clockwork Chickadee" by Mary Robinette Kowal is an interesting fantasy short story that feels like a children's fable. You could listen to any of these stories at random and walk away satisfied, just as I have. I will soon become a full citizen of Clarkesworld, you can bet on that. Full of imaginative works, written by incredible authors, and read to you with amazing narration.Read full review »

I listen to this excellent podcast in my car driving to and from work, and I much prefer living in the worlds created by these authors than sitting in NYC traffic. This is a great podcast. Recommended to all sci-fi enthusiasts.

This is one of the best podcasts I've ever heard. Kate Baker is wonderful and the stories have a depth that many of the scifi magazines have lost. I was a charter subscriber of Asimov's magazine and in the past year I find myself wondering why they picked their stories, they don't...Read full review »
