“Enjoyed Michael Pollan as always but I felt the fact or fad segment was far too superficial and that you didn’t have time to go into the nuances of a long standing practice and a way that was natural to eat in the past. i felt the intermittent fasting study that was focused on gave a squewed picture. just one study comparing calorie controlled diet in an 8 hour or the normal chinese 10.5 hour eating window - took no account of the fact most people in the west eat in much longer windows so this isn’t really applicable - what about talking about insulin levels , how so many in the west and increasingly with the change in diet in the east have too high insulin levels and so are at risk of developing metabolic disorders. Really recommend The Obesity Code written by Dr Jason Fung, Fast feast Repeat by Gin Stephens and the Mark Matson paper in the New England Journal of Medicine Dec 2019 about the beneficial effects of autophagy with intermittent fasting - this way of life is not a weight loss diet it is a way to balance hormones and health with a side effect of weight loss. Felt this was a very superficial view of the research - it is very difficult to cover in such a short time Rangan Chatterjee has several really balanced podcasts about the subject as he has been able to cover it in a long form conversation - maybe think again about fact or fad section ??”
