“Good on these registered dietitians (RDs) for their hard work and enthusiasm for educating Americans about proper nutrition and eating a healthy diet. Anything that helps improve Americans’ science-based nutritional intelligence is a good thing.
Now, nobody is perfect - RDs are human and don’t have to eat perfectly all the time. However, it seems a bit irresponsible to repeatedly promote “cream cheese” as a “healthy fat” when it’s a highly industrially processed food. One RD mentions on multiple episodes how she eats cream cheese in many of her meals/snacks. The RDs also mention repeatedly how often they consume deli meat. This is another highly processed food category full of excess sodium and chemicals. If these are foods that these individuals have factored into their personal lifestyles, that is their choice. However, as licensed health professionals, they shouldn’t be encouraging other people to eat these things on a regular basis.
Finally, in one episode an RD said that phytoestrogens from soy gave her breast cancer. That is factually wrong and impossible. Ever since the WHI Study, many people, including highly educated healthcare professionals, have misunderstood how female sex hormones work. Very briefly, I’ll tell you that the phytoestrogens in soy are not strong enough to cause cancer. And societies that eat more soy, like Japan, have LOWER incidences of breast cancer. Please, please, please educate yourselves on female hormones before speaking about them again. Perhaps invite a hormone expert on your podcast for an episode. Or maybe just avoid the topic all together. Because you are doing women a grave disservice by spreading misinformation about such a critically important health issue. A good place for you to start is with Dr. Avrum Bluming’s book “Estrogen Matters”.”
