EF#41: Understanding how and why Endometriosis is traumatic with Kat Smith
Listen now
Description
My guest today is Kat Smith, a Biomedicine and Nutritional Therapist from Endoplan.   Kat Smith is a former secondary school teacher who left her career to retrain in biomedicine and nutritional therapy, after 7 years of undiagnosed suffering from Endometriosis, after which she was diagnosed with Stage 4 Endometriosis and has since had 4 surgeries. Now, having worked with hundreds of endo sufferers and seeing how many of us struggle with crippling overwhelm and serious food fear, she has developed the Endoplan method which provides reliable structure, strategy and support. Kat's passion is empowering women with the mindset and nervous system tools to confront their trauma, which she believes is the missing piece in endometriosis management. She specialises in using DNA testing and nutrigenomics to transform Endo lives. In this episode we talk about: Kat’s personal story with being diagnosed with Endometriosis and how she suffered with getting this diagnosis. The dangers of freely available information on the internet to help with Endometriosis What trauma is – giving a definition and how this relates to Endometriosis. What types of trauma women with Endometriosis typically experience How our nervous system becomes hyper-vigilant and stress response is permanently switched on Examples of trauma and Endometriosis What research there is in this area and what is needed and if trauma perpetuates the disease Difference between trauma and stress How DNA testing can be used as a tool to help deal with traumatic experiences Stress response, progesterone and GABA Tools, tips and resources for helping to work through trauma associated with Endometriosis Where you can find and work with Kat I recommend you hit SUBSCRIBE so you don’t miss out on any future episodes – which will be out weekly at 6am (BST) on Wednesday mornings!
