I was telling my mother about this story / podcast and she relayed a incident that happened to me when I was 5. We were both shopping in Sainsburys supermarket (this was in 1974 ) my mother was getting a basket at the entrance , I was running around playing , and just that split second she...Read full review »

Well told, compassionate & really heartbreaking. I feel for the family so much (but am horrified at the dad’s behavior, adding to the immense guilt of a 7 year old - just inexcusable). Agree with others that it was a bit drawn out & hyped with teasers that didn’t actually pan out, but...Read full review »

Extremely well produced, as many BBC productions are. Emotional stories told, listeners will pour their hearts into poor Ricky. That man is clearly shattered and traumatized. Excellently done podcast.

This is an excellent podcast, with great investigative journalism by Jon Kay, who displays empathy and sensitivity in the interviews with Cheryl’s haunted brother Ricki. The latest update offers a glimmer of hope in the case. Here’s hoping for some answers and solace for Ricki and the Grimmer...Read full review »

This series is very interesting and sad, and I just hope that the update leads to some progress. The more people who listen and share the more likely it is that more evidence will be uncovered, this latest witness’ account sounds very plausible. Listen to the whole thing if you haven’t.

I’ve been following from the start. I didnt think I would hear any more and delighted when a new episode popped up.

Such a well done podcast - I finished it the same day I started. Tragic story - I feel so much for the family and Ricky.

First off - an incredibly sad story of a tragedy that befell and English family who’d moved Down Under. After I listened to all episodes, one couldn’t help but think that somebody, somewhere knows something and is keeping quiet to this day. If so, shame on them. Another excellent documentary...Read full review »

The talks with the victims brother are riveting. I feel for the man. I give three stars because this could have had half the episodes and still had the same impact.

I don’t care what generation they’re from or that this was “a different time”…what parent charges a 7 yr old with taking their even younger sibling to a public change room at a beach. Poor Ricky…this was not your fault mate.

Ricky makes it all about him and his suffering. He’s still making himself the victim in all of this.He doesn’t talk about Cheryl, only about himself. He shows no awareness and no empathy for his little brothers or what his parents must’ve been going through. Excellently done; to hear that Ricky’s dad blamed him is excruciatingly painful and I hope one day he can forgive himself as he has no culpability in his sister’s disappearance!

This is a heartbreaking podcast. Years ago my son was followed to a changing room from a beach. Fortunately he was older, around 8 at the time, there were other people around, and I was near enough for him to run to me. I’ve often thought about how very fortunate we were.

Listened to the entire podcast in two sittings. Such a sad story and as a mother of two young children my heart goes out to the family. I hope they are finally given a resolution and can be at peace.

So much love for Ricki - absolutely not his fault❤️ I’m sorry his dad blamed him- must have made his life gardener. Yo me he’s been a great and living brother!

This is a decent listen. However, the story isn’t that fascinating. So many other true crime podcasts that don’t benefit from a BBC label that have far more fascinating stories with new information. Such a sad story but so well put together and presented by BBC Jon Kay. You could feel the pain that the family and those working on the case were experiencing and Jon dealt with this very sensitively. Let’s hope one day there will be answers and closure for the family.

It’s a harrowing story but in terms of the podcast I was quite disappointed. The caster finds no new facts but strings out the limited material over far too many episodes. This was a difficult but informative story. As a parent, I was so hoping there would have been more progress after this length of time. Such a sad story told so well by all involved I truly hope Cheryl,s family find some peace and justice one day. So many peoples lives were affected by this person or persons actions on that day she was taken and this story really shows that well done to all who were involved.

Brilliant podcast. Ricky was just as much a victim having to live with the repercussions from his father. A seven year old should never have had that responsibility or blame - incredibly sad for both children.

Absolutely nothing new is discovered or resolved in the course of this incredibly protracted and insubstantial cast; the endlessly self-referential wallowing of the brother is equalled only by Jon Kay’s journalistic ineffectuality. Thumbs down.
