Homeless in Edmonton
First time I listened to the podcast and I was disappointed to hear yet another media source not connect the dots and say “ why are people homeless?” Like it’s some sort of choice. How about , what the hell is wrong with our systems that so many people are unable to access a safe place to live? Why do we have such poverty ? Why is there a tax on a poor person living in a tent but not for a large corporation that is concentrating mass wealth at the top and using our infrastructure to profit yet is not required to pay back to the system in any significant amount so we could as a society have a large amount of money to care for our most vulnerable. And why are we as a society so bitter and selfish. Those of us who are fortunate enough to access meaningful work and create homes and live with dignity, why are we so mean and unfeeling that we will idly stand by and watch police basically send vulnerable people to their death. Oh that’s right , we make it on by turning people who are poor and desperate into criminals. Then we don’t have examine why we do not hold society leaders accountable for finding and fixing the root causes. You think there’s fires when desperate people have no choice or means to survive except to try and provide heat to withstand minus 45 in a tent ? Duh Maybe we should address the poverty that is so crippling it is forcing 3000 people to live on the streets. I’m so sick of hearing yet another media report that acts like this poverty is just some sort of bolt of lightning that has happened without any reason.
