Loving the style of orator who is also narrating to original text and then sharing his bold take on popular philosophical ideas. ❤️❤️❤️

This man made me take a philosophy class in university in my first semester. I now have to write a fifteen-page term paper. Thanks Clif.

I listen to a lot of Podcasts, but rarely have enjoyed Podcasts about poltical theory / philosophy… Until now! I don’t have any bsckground in polticial theory or philosophy, and I’ve learned a lot from Clif whilst also regularly laughing out loud. This podcast is a great combination of smart and...Read full review »

Clif has kept the essentials of philosophy and updated the sensibilities. This is really fine work. I can’t wait to listen to the next episode. Come bask in the clarity! You only have the chains that shackle you in the cave to lose!

A great podcast by a fellow Canuck. If you’ve ever wanted to learn more about what Socrates, Plato and other philosophers have to tell us but were afraid to start, this is the podcast for you. Frankly if you’re a seasoned hand at philosophy and have read the Apology or the Republic but wanted a...Read full review »

As a professional philosopher, I’m equipped to appreciate the quality of Cliff’s work: intelligent and lovingly prepared. I’m especially impressed by the overview of Plato’s Republic, which does justice without getting (too) lost in the weeds. Thank you!

Cannot stop listening to this show, truly compelling stuff. And I’m actually getting smarter for a change….that is no mean feat! Keep these episodes coming!!

I switched from Apple Music to Spotify recently and started listening to podcasts there as well. During the episode “Plato’s Republic 6” and the part with the discussion of the soul, I was absolutely tickled by what I believe must have been a reference to Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia. I can’t...Read full review »

I have been obsessed with this podcast since I randomly discovered it a week or so ago. It is so well-produced and easy to follow yet satisfyingly detailed. A really nice way to find out about the ancient Greek world in which the thought of Socrates and Plato developed. Great appliction of political philosophy to the podcast format.

I love this podcast. It’s entertaining and accessible but not the least bit dumbed-down. If the ideas are new to you, this is an excellent way to get acquainted. If you’ve already read a bunch of Plato, you’re still going to find insights that are fresh and stimulating. It’s smart, it’s funny,...Read full review »

My roommate and I have a ritual where we grab some wine and listen to this excellent podcast every time a new epi gets released. It’s interesting, relevant, and feels very inviting for philosophy newbies like myself.

I'm only one episode in but starting the next right away. Sure, Clif Mark may seem like a made-up name, but his insights are genuine and his storytelling is top notch. Even for an unschooled ancient Athenian such as myself, this is a real treat and smacks of self-improvement. Highly...Read full review »

Stumbled upon this pod in a search for “Plato’s Apology.” Had just read it and wanted some analysis. Found a few pods where host was essentially just reading a summary of the Apology through a tinny microphone before finding Good in Theory. I’ve learned more about what was happening in Athens at...Read full review »

I highly recommend this podcast. If you’re looking for a relatable modern exploration of Plato’s Apology look no further. Clif does an excellent job of examining the ideas surrounding Socrates’ trial and how they are still relevant today. At a time when we are questioning the very basis of our...Read full review »

This is quite simply as good as it gets when it comes to philosophy podcasts. Clif Mark does for Plato what Dan Carlin’s Hardcore History did for the mongols - only better. Blending serious analysis of ideas with a lightness of touch, excellent production, and jokes that are actually funny, you...Read full review »

Fantastic podcast that contextualizes political theory in the historical world in which it lived. Good In Theory pod takes you on a journey through history, politics and the philosophy that shapes our world today. It’s a great escape you won’t feel guilty about listening to.

I sure enjoyed immersing into this podcast so far - a welcome escape from pandemic blues and you feel smarter (or more ignorant) and a little bit dreamy. I like the focus on characters and their stories, not pretentious and vivid and imaginative.

Clif was my political theory professor at the University of Saskatchewan. He is funny, thoughtful, and engaging and I’m thrilled to see this podcast launch so you can learn as much from him as I did. (The Bill and Ted reference in episode one is worth a sixth star.)

Excellent podcast! Very accessible to the novice philosophical ear. Presented in a forgiving manner that is somewhat amusing yet educational. I highly recommend to those with any interest in the history of philosophy but may have thought it pretentious. Well done!

Harhar... but with a sense of humor and contextualized beautifully—and in a most entertaining manner—for the 21st century. If like me you were fascinated by philosophy in high school and college but were put off by the often dry and voluminous nature of the actual books — this pod is for you!

I always found philosophy and political science to be extremely pretentious and intimidating subjects. There’s none of that here. I majored in politics and philosophy at university but feel a little rusty after all these years. I’d like to brush up during these politically and ideologically charged times, but — not gonna lie — I don’t have the time or attention span to reread all my old books.
