beware of patriarchal marketing
Before discovering the podcast, I first read Dr. Valeries book in the context of doing research on the effects of patriarchy on our lives today. I think her concept can be extremely helpful to most women in understanding the underlying causes of issues in their lives. I might suggest though that her healing approaches are probably not the right thing for every woman. I.e. the jail break metaphor. She's also a bit repetitive in her writing. This actually brings me to the podcast that I'm pretty disappointed with. I just listened to my 4th and last episode. She had a guest and it took her 15 minutes of self-marketing blah before she actually got to the actual topic of the episode. Then it took another 10 minutes of her introducing the guest and topic in a really extensive way, before the guest actually got to speak. Furthermore I was distracted profoundly by the oooh's and aahh's and hmmm's she planted in between her guest's sentences. There is such a thing as too much active listening! To me it feels like her ways of marketing (on the podcast and on her website) are an expression of shadow because they are so profoundly rooted in patriarchal paradigms! The way she speaks is from my perspective, very "American" and at the same time very self-centred in a not so healthy, patriarchal way. It's all about "MY podcast", "I'M the woman who invented patriarchy stress disorder", my my my, me me me and unsavoury marketing tactics (luring people in with free stuff, presenting them with some pretty pricey package and then saying things like "your healing should be worth this to you". I call that praying on the vulnerable! She even said on the podcast "I'm so power hungry..."! It was meant to be a joke but didn't feel like one to me...Read full review »

WOW what a story and an amazing take-home message! How inspiring, that even when her body shut down and she lost her voice, ability to write, and her memory, her greatest lesson was staying true to her heart! I loved this <3
