“I’m sorry, but I have to give you a big fat F for this episode. It was an entirely frustrating experience trying to listen to this— I made it through a grueling 20 minutes before giving up. I am dying to hear the story of Geeky Girl, and why she only completed 100 miles, what happened, and what was her experience? WHAT IS THE STORY??? Instead of cluing your listeners in, you took the assumption that your listeners have read the book and are already thoroughly familiar with the story. Instead of telling the story, or at least starting with the there, you just launch in with super specific questions (questions that you personally are interested in, and not necessarily your listeners), and unexplained references to the story. I am in my early 50s and dream of walking the trail- at least sections of it— but now I’ll never know what her story is. You’ve done a huge disservice to your guest since now I’m just mad, and not intrigued enough to go out and buy her book. I haven’t listened to a lot of your episodes before, but I really think you should consider your approach. Listeners want to hear stories, and not just a bunch of super specific questions about how hot it was and what shoes a person wears and what brand of tent they bought. It’s about the stories!!!”
