Vietnam
I was always impressed by the raw beauty. And in the mornings when it did not rain or we were fortunate to set in on ridge line The views were striking. Although after about 4 or 5 months of this dealing with leeches the occasional snake, tiger and monkeys was novel. The 8-10 hour hikes are different. I always think it’s better if someone either nva or American is not trying to make a permanent addition to the landscape Never go during monsoon. The prospects of intense rain can be invigorating Especially wading along the rivers when they can be 4 or 5 ft to neck deep in minutes it it rains What sightseeing places there are temples tunnels mostly abandoned now and deserts. Mountains of 7 -800 meters which once covered with trees 50-70 ft high. I saw my time there as an extended paid trip The one thing that never comes up the man from the north had good reason to be there we did not The medical treatment has improved but realize this a 3D world country. Take the suitable precautions and follow all advice Drink water from approved sources Eat what you want but be aware there consequence for that behavior Remember you are guest and respect the local culture Have fun it can be exciting. I really don’t know Vietnam just the geography jray

Very good, much appreciated labor of history, albiet could use a bit of decolonization which I can imagine is hard for someone whois from Kentucky? Otherwise, actually very informative and digestible. Thank you for doing this

One of the best podcast i have been listening to. The narrative is very clear, informative and well organized. South-East Asia is a really vast topic, and it is more complex taking into consideration the regional dynamics. The podcast provides insight right from the historical prespective....Read full review »
