“I enjoyed your show on the life and roles of the single woman very much. However, one group of single women was definitely missing: the widowed single woman. You mentioned the statistic of how many single person households there are and many of these would be the widowed. Their role in families and society certainly gets overlooked. There is stigma: couples suddenly see their now single friend as a threat. No-one quite knows what to do with them at weddings or similar occasions. They are more likely to be offered the task of taking care of the family pets for the weekend than a wedding invite. There’s the assumption that they are always available to babysit, when they may well have quite busy lives, thank you very much. There is poverty and choices deliberately made, such as not to re-marry. A part two of the Idea presented would be most welcome.”
