Charisma Carpenter Podcast
I tuned in because like many, I'm a fan of Ms. Carpenter's work and was interested in hearing her speak her own words, rather than a script. The discussion centred around a book, The Last Lecture, and revolved around its lessons. Both participants were earnest in their desire to be "better people", for lack of another term and shared some insights and anecdotes. Towards the end of the podcast, Ms. Carpenter spoke about some advice she had received from a succesful director and was obviously appreciative and also respectful of the man's professional status. The host, however, repeatedly refered to this man as "ancient" and "super old". While it clear there was an element of inside joke or at least a shared history with this fellow, listeners were not privy to the nature of it. To her credit, Ms. Carpenter immediately countered the host's descriptions and made clear her respct for him, yet the host persisted. I give Ms. Carpenter full marks for her grace, in both defending the man and diplomatically disagreeing with the host. Although it was only one small portion of the podcast, I found it extremely disappointing. That in this sensitive age, a person whose career is based on public acceptance would engage in such blatant ageism. I cannot imagine anyone calling someone out for their skin colour, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or any other characteristic over which they have no control but apparently mocking the elderly is acceptable. If it was intended to be funny somehow, it fell short. As the host herself stated earlier in the podcast, for something to be funny, both parties have to think it's funny. It was particulary ironic coming on the heels of a 50 minute discourse on how one should act. I'll close with one last observation: every single old person was young once. They faced and survived the exact same joys, struggles, victories, and defeats as the young now face. There is nothing new in the human experience; it has been the same for millennia. If you are lucky, perhaps you too will reach an age where you understand that.Read full review »

More reviews of "I'm Fine." with Krista Allen
Krista Allen started out, as many people did, as a B-level actress in the early '90s, but has gone on to be a prolific, regularly working one in a town where some of the most talented people I've ever met regularly go slinking home to wherever they're from in defeat (that's what I...Read full review »

This is truly truly funny. Very casual, fun, and oddly informative. Not that this was intentional, but you really never have to read a self help book again. They are all so similar. Least you could have a great time hearing what they're about, here. Ep 2. best one.Read full review »
