I really loved the series on Napoleon and Cecil Rhodes and found them informative and interesting. I enjoy the way both presenters challenging current and past viewpoints and how that fits with our modern life now. Perhaps I didn’t love the dramatisation parts as much but it does work. Great work...Read full review »

This podcast would have been much improved if there’d been more about Picasso and less personal opinion from the hosts, particularly in the second & third episodes.

History for 5year olds; stretched out and filled in to maximise content for advertising but painfully simplified and ‘dramatised’. Such a shame.

Despite the previous reviews .. I think this is a fantastic podcast . It’s a podcast , easy listening . It’s not for you if you have or currently studying towards a doctorate in history ! Be realistic . History isn’t just for the intellectuals! Stop being snobbish ! Highly recommend 👏🏻

Too much of the hosts talking about themselves, tried to listen to the last one and had to turn it off, it was more about their opinions and preaching, I would just get into the story and then they would stop the story for ages to talk about themselves or their opinions. Really disappointing as I...Read full review »

I’m afraid I agree with EveHWM and others, this format is absolutely beneath both of you.

Great podcast but only one woman featured out of six greats?

I’m going to start by saying - Afua, I love you. You are the voice missing in so many history podcasts!! I was hooked from Season 1 Episode 1. Afua is such a great voice of BIPOC peoples perspectives - thank you, as a fellow POC. The way Peter and Afua converse feels like you are at some intimate...Read full review »

The potential here lies in interesting (in this case serious) subjects, knowledgeable presenters and the magic of the podcast medium, which comes from more time & space for the natural spontaneity, character & quality of presenters to come out. In their eagerness to copy and paste...Read full review »

Please hold with the simplistic and ill informed extrapolations and generalisations. You’re sounding like tabloid journalists. Turing may well have had an eccentric music / arts teacher who joked about maths. Who didn’t ! But to conclude from that Science was not valued is ridiculous. The UK...Read full review »

I really enjoyed the first episode but sadly the series has turned into Woke conversations Such as… Why does Napoleon have a well tended grave when black slave plantation workers don’t ? What an imbecilic, ridiculous point ! My poor peasant and merchant ancestors who were Europeans, equally do...Read full review »

This could’ve been better without the dramatisation. Instantly patronising.

Having been a fan of Nina Simone, for many years, I was interested in finding out more about her life and career. However, the hosts were difficult to understand., not only because of their accents but the gentleman spoke very fast. This was my first time listening to Legacy and there are...Read full review »

… through a coarse and tiresome political ideology. And thus it is no longer what some of us understand as ‘history’. No thanks.

Refreshing look at historical figures you may have heard only one side of in the past.

Ok
Content is good, but the number of times the presenters mentioned they went to Oxford **eye roll… a form of imperialism in its own right

Typical biased academic assessment with no regard for the real world.

Not enough detail to the history and too much of Afua’s student politics nonsense. Utterly predictable! Like a dull evening in the students union.

The reality of who Picasso was I think is essential to understanding the painting. I don’t think we should shy away from it. Obviously he was a bit of a narcissist. I think to become such a great painter and publicist it’s probably an essential ingredient. One thing I do feel is he’s a bit...Read full review »

I’m a fan of both authors so I was really excited to listen to this. As with all things regarding white history, people don’t like to hear the truth and ignorance is high. If you really care to unlearn some of the bits about your history that’s uncomfortable then give it a listen and ignore the...Read full review »

It’s a tough corner of the podcast world, this. You’re up against TRIH which does brilliant funny stuff with charismatic presenters who have a legendary rapport. For example the TRIH mini series on Young Napoleon was the best (and funniest) podcast set ever. This podcast is okay because it gives...Read full review »

As a physician who did not get time to take nearly enough history classes in college, I love podcasts for learning about how fascinating the characters of our past really are. There are many great podcasts for that purpose (1865 is amazing), and this one is an interesting take on the genre. I do...Read full review »

Loving this pod. A balanced look at historical figures which is not afraid to ask the awkward questions about ‘heroes’ ‘stars’ or ‘role models’ Afua and Peter are a great team. The one on Cecil Rhodes was particularly eye opening.

Episode 4 Napoleon. Afua says that 40,000 Africans enslaved by the British were buried in a mass grave on St Helena. I really enjoyed the episodes! There are events that should be discussed and I think that some history people don’t want to discuss because it is uncomfortable and I think that by discussing it we can make sure that it doesn’t happen again.

Such a fascinating and interesting view on Napoleon. I had no idea he tried to reintroduce slavery in Caribbean! Both historians are great but I particularly enjoyed Afua’s opinions. Fantastic. I cannot wait to listen to 2nd series!

Afua hirsch is so burdened with political and social bias the show is already hamstrung. Someone who grew up in a gilded cage but likes to undermine society for own gain. Incredibly boring.

Listening to the first episode, I wasn’t entirely sure what to make of this show - as the format was so unfamiliar. But having listened to the entire first series, I would highly recommend this: great combination of storytelling and really insightful discussion. The hosts are brilliant as well.

Great premise and content delivered by two knowledgeable and charming hosts. It’s the total package.
