“Found the memes on Instagram first (top notch), and ended up at the pod. And it’s great.
The Armen interview is a favorite now. His behind the scenes access and y’all’s passion for the sport AND community came together perfectly!
I do wish someone would speak on behalf of the affiliates in regards to the Open. I completely agree Roma’s plan to put our affiliates as a top priority is so good to hear. And any change from last year has been welcomed. But to talk about HQ’s cash cow being the open and not mentioning that the only reason that is possible is because of the tireless work the affiliates put in does leave a big element unexplored. And it has been my experience (may not be the same for others) that the weeks before, during, and after the open are often the slowest months of growth because of the attention required to facilitate a good experience for the current community members. Again, may just be my experience so if that’s the case, disregard. But it has been a decade for me with three different affiliates so there’s probably something there.
(And yes, a worldwide leaderboard does cost money to develop and maintain, crashing or not, so the $20 doesn’t need to be shared with those doing the actual work every Thursday through Monday on Castros behalf. But acknowledging that what makes the Open popular has little to do with HQ would be nice. In 2011 the Open was a gateway to regionals. For the last five years, it is simply a community event solely dependent on the affiliate. I hope that makes sense.
Y’all are awesome.”
