Just what I’ve been looking for! Tom and Ula are so entertaining with their genuine and relatable conversations. Tom’s English speaking adds the context I need to make Ula’s mandarin comprehensible. So glad I found this, and so happy I have 300 more old episodes to work through. Thanks, guys!

This podcast is great for passive listening. The English / Chinese split means that I can follow along, and I don’t feel like I’m stuck in a regimented class. I’m always impressed how the hosts can talk about seemingly anything. This podcast is a great complement to a well rounded learning...Read full review »

There are two things that have helped my Chinese improve the most: 1. Talking to native speaker(s) every week 2. Listening to this show every day When you start looking around for how to improve your listening, you’ll find a lot about comprehensible input. Then you’ll go looking for input and if...Read full review »

You need quite a bit more than a beginning level of Chinese to follow what they’re talking about. I’m sure it’s great if you already speak Chinese but he doesn’t translate what she’s saying more than half the time, so I’m left scratching my head instead of learning.

Just finished listening to this episode. Was turned off when he made gun sounds to demonstrate why he wouldn’t let his kid study there. Have you ever been to Texas? I’m not even from there, and I just thought it was a weird. Is this a common stereotype shared among those that live in the UK? If...Read full review »

Long time supporter. I know both these guys, can’t decide who is cooler, Tom or Ragnar. Interesting conversation about being small business owners, being English, being Icelandicish (?). And Ula gave just the right of Chinese for me. Good interview, good language practice. Thanks gang. Cara

Native podcasts are way too fast and produce zero context. Chinese learning podcasts are so boring and make it hard to WANT to listen. This is perfect 😍

Fantastic show. Tom and Ula have shown a caring and vulnerability that makes their Podcast a must listen to learn Mandarin. Of course it’s clever to have one of them speak English and the other speak Mandarin but it’s their openness about their struggles and their growth that makes this show...Read full review »
