Best listening experience ever created!
I am completely and utterly obsessed with this podcast. The way it came into my life (this morning) was so serendipitous as well! As a recent transfer to Los Angeles from Puerto Rico due to Hurricane Maria, I've worked extremely hard to reclaim stability. Now, my efforts have definitely paid off in all areas and I am immensely grateful with how kind and generous this city has been to me- but still.. to be forced abruptly to rebuild a new life from scratch due to extreme weather events, alone, in such a broad, frenetic and congested setting has been... intense to say the least. And has unfortunately fostered anxiety within me. Which is why for weeks now I’ve been desperately and incessantly searching for a calming, soothing podcast for my long commutes to and from work. A kind and gentle companion for when I’m home, looking to relax after a long day. Something to quiet both the chaos outside and within. But nothing I came across worked for me. The speakers voices are either way off, dull, or the quality of the recording is distracting. I wasn’t really looking for guided meditations either. That whole “sit down and close your eyes” type thing is too intense for my mental capacities at the moment. It has the opposite effect on me and just makes me more anxious. I wanted a narrative that would transport me, transform me, and help me feel calm. Centered. Connected. The closest pods I’ve found that work for me (and that awakened that desire for more meaningful listening experiences) are The Moth Radio Hour and Modern Love. But I’m caught up with both- which is what triggered my almost “manic-like” search for another show. About two days ago I came to terms with my reality: what I wanted -what I NEEDED- didn’t exist. Nobody had thought to create it, because maybe nobody else felt like I did. Maybe I was alone, too picky or too unrealistic about my podcasting expectations. I lost hope and gave up my search. I was relieved to see that a new Modern Love episode was waiting for me upon waking this morning and... before the story began, a kind voice talks about this new mindfulness program called Meditative Story and assured me that I’d love it. It felt like the announcer was directly speaking to ME, so I immediately paused ML and searched for Meditative Story with childlike excitement- a feeling I haven't experienced in a long time. Let me tell you. It is even MORE than what I could’ve ever hoped for. The narrator, the voices, the mindfulness prompts that gently sneak in on you and bring you back to HERE and NOW. THE MUSIC, my god, if there were ever a more exquisite and ethereal combination of sounds, elements and arrangements. As dorky as this will seem- as soon as I pressed play the experience felt exactly like the woman in the cover. It 100% felt just.like.that. Which only proves to me even more that you guys really know what you’re doing. I could go on and on and on. It’s brilliant. Beyond ordinary or common experience. And... just what the doctor ordered. I mean that. I never (ever ever) comment on anything or leave reviews. But I am compelled to for this project because it’s absolutely wonderful. A gem. A work of art. And for me, particularly today, a wink from the Universe. THANK YOU. For keeping me company, for making this journey inspiring and tolerable, and most importantly, for elevating me and bringing me back to ME. I will forever be a fan and loyal follower, and will definitely be telling everyone I know about this (trust me, I’m already driving everyone crazy at work cause I won’t shut up about it). Thank you! Keep it up! You’re all amazing!Read full review »

I was particularly moved by Thomas the writer/ boxer’s story. I was also a transman boxer until I experienced a freak accident, a spinal cord injury, during a sparring session. I had a very similar experience boxing. It was the most wonderful, peaceful time of my athletic career. Boxing for me...Read full review »
