Intriguing...
Meta Treks is far from the most accessible podcast on the Trek.fm network, but there is a lot of interesting content to absorb here. My feeling is that those who have at least a smattering of Philosophy in their educational background will find it easier to get on board with than I did, but the hosts do a pretty good job of introducing new concepts to the novice as well. Personally, I find the episodes focusing on ethics more interesting than the metaphysical ones, and sometimes the balance seems too skewed towards Philosophy and not enough towards Star Trek. (The early episode in which they populate a starship with their favourite philosophers is a bit alienating for a general audience.) But when they dive into a particular episode or dilemma in detail - whether the 'whacking' of Senator Vreenak in 'In the Pale Moonlight' or Picard's application of the Prime Directive in 'Symbiosis' - the show really takes off, and the knowledge and expertise of the hosts brings something new and interesting to the table. I look forward to future episodes as the show continues to find its feet - and whether hit or miss, I know I'll always learn something. Update: After a year or so of listening to Meta Treks, it has become my absolute favourite Trek.fm podcast. It definitely benefits from regular listening as new episodes build on ideas discussed in previous installments. The show has become a real standout, and the more episodes you listen to the more each one will mean to you. I originally gave this podcast 4 stars, but now wouldn't hesitate to push that up to 5 - well worth your time to listen to.Read full review »

I love Trek but to hear the deep questions that arise in REAL life discussed and applied to the Star Trek universe is unique in my experience and really raises the level at which I can appreciate Trek. The guys also deliver the discussion in an engaging way that is fun to...Read full review »

I'm in my first year teaching Philosophy and this podcast has provided me with all kinds of ways to work Star Trek into my courses. Additionally, the hosts have helped me to both think about some philisophical concepts and Star Trek characters/episodes in ways I hadn't before. Good for anyone...Read full review »

Star Trek has had philosophy incorporated in it almost from the beginning. The hosts of Meta Treks take real world philosophy and combine it with the Star Trek universe.
