“I've loved the myths and legends of Ancient Greece ever since my primary school teacher read a version The Odyssey to us. I was aged about 9 and the stories and adventures of Odysseus made such a big impact on me that I hunted for everything that I could find in the school library about more of the myths.
Paul Vincent has done a simply brilliant job of retelling these ageless stories for the 21st Century - it's Groovy Greeks and Horrible Histories for the iPod generation.
His version of the 12 Labours Of Heracles comes alive, with the hero showing all of his human flaws and that apart from being the son of Zeus, he's just like the rest of us really.
However, it's his telling of the creation myths and the early days of the gods and monsters that impressed me. There's a lot of stuff going on and lots of names and places to remember and Mr Vincent does this simply and with panache, making it easy for anyone to actually draw out family trees of the main characters.
I'm just about to start listening to the history of the Trojan War, spread out over (at least) 9 episodes - can't wait.
I can't recommend this podcast enough - if you're a kid, do your self a favour and download it, if you're an adult, do yourself and your kids a favour, and download it.”
