please turn down the ad volume --speakers are almost always way quieter than new ads (excluding host voiced ones); also ads are now beginning, end, & twice in the middle /: hm. But love that it actually gives you an idea of whats in the books. (& people upset w/ 'um's, might...Read full review »

Very interesting, but PLEASE, like many others have said in the reviews, either get rid of the “ums” and *lipsmacks* in post-editing, or have the interviewer practice not doing those things so much. It’s incredibly hard to focus on what is being said when those things are constantly ringing in...Read full review »

Bad editing. This is a great for what it is but could use some formatting changes. The bios at the beginning are usually unhelpful. Lots of verbal quarks (ums uns etc). Choppy cuts, and a tendency to sidestep hot button questions.

There are so many new books in philosophy, that oftentimes it’s difficult to get around to reading outside your particular area of interest. To have a podcast where philosophers are able to lay out their arguments in their own words and which also directs you to a more thorough work they’ve...Read full review »

What the title (and other reviewers) said. I’m a philosophy professor and love the content but, for god’s sake, PLEASE edit out the interviewers incessant “um”s! The only reason that the podcast is bearable is that the interviews speak better.

This podcast is among the best online resources for those who want or need to stay updated on the field of contemporary philosophy. Though it’s by nature (much) less comprehensive, I’d say it’s on par with other essentials like NDPR, Philpapers and the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy.

Podcasts that interview people and claim to examine complex and interesting topics are a dime a dozen, but 99% of them never go deeper than the surface level version of the topics. The New Books Network is uniquely different, and New Books In Philosophy is the best of the New Books...Read full review »

Brilliant guests. Horrible hosts. “Uh, hum, you know, like, uhm...”; ridiculous

New Books in Philosophy is a series of long-form interviews in which philosophers discuss their newly-published books. The interviews are thorough, thoughtful, and deliberative; and if you are listening as a student or researcher in the discipline, you have almost certainly added books to your...Read full review »

Very impressed with the choice of guests and quality of the conversations. This podcast provides excellent introductions to new philosophical works and thought provoking conversations with authors. Keep up the great work!

It is almost impossible to follow your words! Uh every other word! Please dear god stop so I can listen!

These ought to be really good. But they're not, alas. It's not clear whether they are aiming at experts or intelligent non-experts. The presenter Carrie Figdor may know her stuff, but she has no humour or sparkle, and often seems almost unable to complete a sentence - the extended flat...Read full review »

I am a philosophy professor who absolutely loves podcasts. I listen to several everyday and attend live recordings of podcasts every year. But this podcast is just terrible. It is not necessarily the content (although that is usually fairly boring). The issue is that the hosts cannot speak....Read full review »

It’s one of the splendid podcasts in philosophy, at least for me. From it, I can learn a lot about what is going on in philosophical study in our time.

采访的都是目前英语世界中比较活跃的哲学家。虽然学术性很强,不太适合普通读者,但从专业角度来说,这个播客水平很高。

This podcast goes way beyond browsing listings of new books. It's good for those of us who do philosophy far from the research universities.

The New Books Network produces several podcasts and I’ve been subscribed to them for a couple of years now. Across the board, they all share two characteristics: they present interesting content; and they have truly appalling sound quality. They’ve been going for years now and the audio quality...Read full review »
