Well Intentioned but Misinformed.
I’ve been on a hunt for a good body-positive, science based podcast lately, as quarantine and life stress have flared up some of my ED thoughts and habits. When I found this one I had high hopes, after listening to a couple episodes I realized that the main point is just to promote her books and private practice. It’s annoying, but not a deal breaker for me, I understand they're just trying to work. When I found their episode on how disordered eating affects your thyroid I thought I struck gold. I have hypothyroidism caused by Hashimoto's and have struggled with disordered eating for a long time. However, while a lot of the background information was good. I found myself really struck and upset by how misinformed some of the information was. Hashimoto's causes hypothyroidism, not hyper. And the symptoms of hyperthyroidism are completely different from hypo. I understand that I come at this as someone who has studied it for a long time, but if they are promoting their practice, and approaching this as experts, I expect their advice to be accurate! I would hate for people to listen and misdiagnose themselves, or think if they don’t have the listed symptoms nothing is wrong. The thyroid affects almost every aspect of how your body functions, they barely touch the surface, and offer incorrect information in the process. Im sure they’re wonderful, well intentioned people but I’m truly disappointed.Read full review »
