75 degrees with a high likelihood of predictability
After listening to this podcast for another few months, I've noticed that of all the public radio I listen to (and that is quite a bit as I enjoy it), this one is easily slanted the most to the left of the American idiological spectrum. At times, it's almost as if they make no pretense about it. I'm a non partisan person and I enjoy hearing differing points of view, but "On The Media" just doesn't give that to the listner. It's more like comfort food for the left. It is public radio and so I expect (and even look forward to) a predominantly liberal point of view, it's just that I wouldn't mind some semblence of balance or objectivity. You don't get that from "On the Media" but it's still worth a listen for its almost unvarnished trumpeting of all things of the left. This podcast can veer from enjoyable (their recent look at digital file sharing) to fairly mundane (thier look at fox news and... surprise, they don't like fox news). One issue this podcast and show seems to suffer from, is that it is very often quite predictable. Their analysis is consistently slanted far to the left of the policitcal spectrum. Now there is nothing wrong with this, it's just that you always know what you are going to get. If you are looking for a podcast to support what you already probably believe (you are listening to public radio) then you will very likely enjoy this show. However, if you are looking for something to challenge your beliefs and present things objectively, well you will likely be dissapointed. In the end I suppose it is like most things, it just depends on what you are searching for. This podcast is presented well and at times it certainly does bring insightful commentary to the table, more often then not though, it falls somewhere in between the ordinary and the notable.Read full review »
