Sam Miller on Training, Testing and Quantifying Power with 3-D Resistance

Description
Sam Miller is the Founder and CEO of Proteus motion – a cutting-edge technology and training company that’s looking to fill in the gaps with how we test and train for power development. As someone that’s always looking to sharpen the saw and improve my own programming, I jumped at the chance to get Sam on the show. After watching demo videos of the Proteus I obviously wanted to talk about how we can incorporate better 3D Training with our athletes, but what I was most surprised by was how he’s using it with gen pop clients as well. So in this episode we cover a ton of ground – from the long days and nights Sam had when he started building the Proteus, to why we need to be digging deeper into rotational power training, and of course discussing how important it is to make training FUN – so our clients and athletes will want to keep coming back for years to come.   It is absolutely essential to be evaluating multi-planar and rotational movement. – Sam Miller   This Week on the Physical Prep Podcast: * How Sam got started in the world of physical prep. * The origins of Proteus Motion, and all of the long days and sleepless nights that led to it’s creation. * The process of going from concept, to prototype, to functional unit. * Why a Proteus is so powerful, and how it’s different from your standard dumbbells, cables and bands. * 3D Resistance: What it is, and why you should be testing and training it. * Why the standard tools for assessing power development leave a lot to be desired. * How an over-reliance on sagittal plane activities can actually hamper rotational sports performance. * The role of 3D training for both rotational sports athletes, as well as your gen pop clients! * What’s next for Sam and Proteus in the years to come. * A really fun lightning round where we talk about the biggest headaches he’s had in the process, what he’s taking away from their assessment process, and just how many data points they currently have (it’s crazy!)     Connect with Sam and Proteus: * ProteusMotion.com * Proteus on IG * Tag Proteus on Twitter * Eric Cressey Podcasts * Damian Lillard Rehab using Proteus     Have YOU Heard About the New IFAST University?
