Sounds more like Tweety Bird than Austen
I was thrilled to find a copy of Pride and Prejudice, one of my favourite novels, as a free podcast. I began listening with much anticipation and was initially disappointed to hear it read with an American accent, as it is a quintessential British novel. However, after a few chapters, I became used to the accent and settled in to enjoy the experience. That is until the introduction of the character of Caroline Bingley. For reasons that I cannot imagine, the character of Caroline is performed with a speech impediment (not referred to in Austen's novel) that makes her sound like Tweety Bird. It ruins the novel and no amount of listening has helped retrieve the experience!

More reviews of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
I thought this was great. I have been a fan of all of Jane Austen's books for ages and I thought the reader really captured the voices well. I can see the characters in my head talking to one another.

The narrator is so good, she overcomes the disadvantage of having an American accent. Excellent!
