“I was thrilled to find a copy of Pride and Prejudice, one of my favourite novels, as a free podcast. I began listening with much anticipation and was initially disappointed to hear it read with an American accent, as it is a quintessential British novel. However, after a few chapters, I became used to the accent and settled in to enjoy the experience. That is until the introduction of the character of Caroline Bingley. For reasons that I cannot imagine, the character of Caroline is performed with a speech impediment (not referred to in Austen's novel) that makes her sound like Tweety Bird. It ruins the novel and no amount of listening has helped retrieve the experience!”
