The Oscar Wilde of Edinburgh
Some say that Richard Herring is to Edinburgh what Oscar Wilde is to Paris. They don't know what they're talking about. Richard Herring is not, unlike Wilde, dead. He also isn't buried in a Parisian church yard. Also, Wilde didn't give away so much free stuff as Herring and never appeared once in a television series with Herring's Arch nemesis Tony Lee. (I think it was Tony Lee - the series was a long time ago and I've completely forgotten the name of the other person who appeared with Herring but he clearly wasn't very memorable or very funny and his actual name is lost to history. Herring's approach to interviewing is beyond compare. Forget the greats - Carson, Parky, Letterman and the rest. If you want to compare him with anyone the late, great Russel Harty's name springs to mind. Both Harty and Herring (can it just be coincidence that they share initials?) bring a similar laid back insouciance to the art of interviewing that completely relaxes both the interviewee and listener. Harty, like Herring, had quite long hair and was also an Oxford graduate although unlike Herring he rarely mentioned the fact. Another similarity is that both Herring and Harty had tempestuous love lives and draw on them for much of their humour. So, in conclusion, I can't recommend this podast enough. Make sure you listen to the aptly named 'Russel Harty of Edinburgh' very soon. You won't regret it.Read full review »

I love this show and agree with the previous posters that the quality of the show depends on the guests but they have all been good to date. I am off to today's show (Wed 10th) with Glenn Wool, which should be great. Fingers crossed for the quiz!Read full review »

Just experienced RH's podcast live. It's good on the iPod but even better live. Andrew O'Neill was superb. If you can make your way to The Stand in Edinburgh.Read full review »
