Like all students, I was fed a white washed history about slavery and the Civil War. This podcast is necessary listening for all Americans, all people of the World! My eyes are opened and openly weeping. This country was built off of the backs of the disadvantaged and black people are still being...Read full review »

I was immediately hooked as I started listening. For too long these stories have been put to the side and not talked about. We can never forget what happened. Thank you so much Dr. Kidada and team for sharing your knowledge with us all. Knowledge is power.

Really interesting podcast. As a white Canadian, I’ve only come across reconstruction history in movies or TV. The podcast felt like I was attending a history class and I really enjoyed having a chance to learn. Thank you!

I love seeing some of my favorite Civil War personalities and meeting new ones - Abraham Galloway, Suzy King Taylor, and William Henry Singleton. Great talk for classroom use. The interviews with Hilary Green and Kate Masur were expert and refreshing. I learned a lot about the steps Black...Read full review »

So smart, so engaging. The interviews with the historians and musicians about their techniques are so powerful. But nothing is more powerful than the original words of the pastors, soldiers, family members and farmers who were making new lives despite all odds and despite all attempts by both...Read full review »

Every episode is well-written, engaging and so inspiring. I feel like starting each episode over as soon as it ends because there’s so much interesting and thought-provoking history in each one. I am a white woman who is learning so much. Thank you!

I can’t even begin to describe much I am learning while listening to this podcast. It inspires me to dig deeper into history that through white oppression, has been missing. It will help fit in puzzle pieces that they don’t teach in schools.

I absolutely love this podcast. I’ve only listened to the first episode (so far) and I am so so grateful to hear this important part of African American history told in our Black ancestor’s own words. Please keep them coming. This is critical, soul-filling work.

This is a riveting podcast. It sheds light on the stories of enslaved and recently freed people. It is amazing to hear accounts from letters and documents that the formerly enslaved or recently emancipated wrote or dictated THEMSELVES. Highly recommend!

Shame stranglers was great, good journalism. Now you just jump on the antiwhite bandwagon and spread more division. Will never listen to a pod you do ever again! Racism cloaked in anti racism !!!! Disgusting

Notice the word “power” in the title. This is merely another postmodernist attempt to posit hot trash. No one is hiding history. A “new story” hardly describes the nonsense these fools are contriving to heighten division. 1619 is fiction, read a history book and end the hateful rhetoric and...Read full review »

A must listen! I am so grateful for this series. These stories have been omitted from too many history books, narratives, and lessons. Thank you VPM and Witness Docs for bringing them to life.

And I’m also grateful to learn from Dr. Williams wisdom. I first heard her on The a United States of Anxiety and I’m looking forward to hearing from her more regularly. This is going to be fantastic.
