“As a huge fan of the New Statesman podcast and the City Metric blog I was excited to listen to this.
I'm giving it 5 stars and writing a review to help more people find the podcast and it definitely has promise to be consistently at least a 4/5 podcast.
Couple of notes that are not necessarily criticism but small problems I've noticed.
It's slightly too long. I think a new podcast shouldn't be asking so much listening time. Do 22-24 minutes very well first then build up close to 45 once you have a firm listener base.
Too much music. It feels at time like the podcast has a score. A score fits better with a story telling podcasts which I don't think Skylines intends to be.
Structurally it felt a little muddled. This is linked to it being a bit too long. The segments are different in style, (interviews and discussion) and it's not really queued up that well, the affect being I didn't know what was coming up next until it was happening and then I had to work out what was the intention of the segment.
And finally, a map of the week is great but some method should be developed to help people find it easily. Maybe each week CityMetric's Twitter could pin a tweet as their 'Map of the Week' or have a unique url. Would help direct traffic to the blog and social media. Just a thought if CityMetric people are reading.
