Either you're with the Gabfest, or you're with...
I had no idea until I just now read these reviews that there was such a pro-Gabfest/anti-Gabfest divide among Slate podcast listeners. Count me solidly in the Gabfan camp. As one reviewer put it, it's a decent podcast otherwise (hearing one good article from Slate's site read every day) -- but the Gabfest is what truly sets this podcast apart from its peers. It's the smart, unscripted, unpretentious, occasionally wrongheaded but extremely likeable alternative to standard pundit-analysis discussions you get from so many other sources wrapping up the week's news. These three people clearly enjoy their weekly conversation, and are friends, and it's infectious. My wife and I sometimes joke that we must be pretty lame, because we actually feel like Emily, John and David are three of OUR good friends. That's what listening to them week after week for 18 months will do... I must add one other thought: what's with the Andy fetish among these reviews? OK, he had a nice voice, but not THAT nice. The other readers do a perfectly fine job of, well, reading.Read full review »

This podcast shows how well this site has matured and attracted a...Read full review »
