This week we chat with Peter Maniam, who runs local events company Rogue Village here in East Lothian with his wife Jenny. Together they imagine and choreograph the most beautiful events, the most recent being Winter Wonderland in the run up to last Christmas. Events are one of the sectors which has been most affected by the pandemic and their resilience and determination to keep creating against all the odds is really humbling. Doing it with such good humour and grace is really next level....

Back in 2013 Steampunk opened our doors for the very first time, as a pop up coffee bar in 'The Den' in Forth Street. We were on a back street, behind a rather unremarkable door in a room full of 50's furniture. We really didn't think many people would show up. The very first people to come in through those doors that morning were Michael and Sarah Lewis along with their friend Alex Naughton. They were so great - we had a brilliant conversation and I remember thinking that people who liked...

Cameron chats to Jason Lovell, Fraser McCarter, Luke Smith and Sam Cowan from North Berwick's notorious rock and roll legends Bluetile. These guys stormed onto the stage at Fringe by the Sea in 2019 to an audience of several hundred and have never looked back. Steampunk has been proud to host them for numerous gigs since and we have so enjoyed watching them develop their abundant musical talent. We hope you enjoy this conversation which spans so many topics (so many) - but also music,...

In season 4 of our podcast we are stepping out of our coffee shop tucked behind North Berwick's High Street and having a chat with a variety of different people in our community. We often talk about the importance of community here at Steampunk - but what exactly does that mean and how is it seen by other members of our community? We started off at the top end of the High Street and had a chat with Manz Ahmed whose family has run Nisa there for the past 26 years. Funnily enough, turns out we...

Hello! Welcome back to another season of the pod! We have been in Lockdown 2 here in Scotland since Christmas eve and our cafe is closed. Although the roastery is still busy roasting and shipping online orders, we have all been working separately in order to reduce any risk of virus spreading and many of us are on flexi furlough. We have certainly been keeping busy though and have been brewing plenty of coffee at home, like the rest of the country. To kick off the new season, Pete, Toby and...

Join Peter, Toby, Scott and Cameron for a chat about all things Christmassy. What we love best about both hospitality and Christmas is the chance to  indulge in all sorts of interesting, funny and random conversations. Because everything is weird this year, and just getting weirder we decided we would just take it all online. The chat encompasses nut roast, Chippolatas and nativity roles (Jesus had a grandad??) and very little about coffee. Hope you enjoy it anyways... This is the last...

In this episode Catherine Franks chats with Bruna Costa from Kamba Coffee. Kamba is a fairly new importer who we have worked with since they set up in 2019. In fact Ludwika and Cath met Bruna on a visit to Ethiopia that year where our working relationship began. Our new release Bale Mountain is an interesting and rare example of a vertically integrated supply chain where Israel Degfai, who produced the coffee is also part owner of Kamba and is therefore directly involved at every stage of...
