I’m so glad I have the chance to gain inspiration from your discussions of language - awesome stuff

The hosts are very well intentioned but their work is full of over generalisations and a fair amount of bulverism. This isn’t a pod with much serious analysis and it might leave listeners misinformed in some cases.

If you are weary of cringing at the inevitability of ever-evolving language, and if you want to cast off that over-worked nerve, this Podcast is for you. Daniel, Hedvig and Ben are delightful, amusing and erudite while they keep us up on the latest slang, the history of usage, and a host of...Read full review »

I’m merely an enthusiast and far from an expert, but I thoroughly enjoy the show and look forward to every “poducational” (my word of the week) episode. Keep doing what you do guys… love your work! 🙌🏼

I found myself quadriplegic in a hospital bed staring at the ceiling for 7 months. This is one of a handful of podcasts that kept me sane. The chemistry between the hosts, the deep knowledge and how they make it accessible to an armchair linguist like me, I always learn something new. This one is...Read full review »

Over the past few years this podcast has gone from “must listen” to “only if I’ve run out of others”. The change became really apparent when they stopped being on community radio and became podcast only. As a result, they became more niche, too long, and I think victims of their own success. I...Read full review »

I listen/have listened to seemingly all the linguistics podcasts and BL is top-tier. It features a truly wide variety of topics, a pleasing blend of the irreverent and the intellectual, and fascinating guests. That said, you will have to learn to live with one of the more frustrating trios of...Read full review »

Seriously, I love podcasts and there are heaps. But I find Because Language to be highly entertaining, highly informative, and I love the peeps. I hang out for the next episode to bring me comfort and knowledge.

This is truly a great podcast, super useful as a reliable source of news from the field of linguistics and news about “all things” language. The hosts master the art of making complex topics accessible to the general public. It’s entertaining too – practically every episode has snippets that make...Read full review »

The three co-hosts — two linguists, Daniel and Hedvig, and the far-from-everyman teacher, Ben — play off each other wonderfully, full of humor, self-deprecation and wild tangents. Through it all, you learn a lot about linguistics and how people communicate. They are on just about every possibly...Read full review »

I feel anyone can find something on each show to get excited about, almost like you want to participate in the conversations the hosts are having to ask more questions or give more examples! Linguists Daniel and Hedvig and teacher Ben do a great job of taking difficult or breaking linguistics work and put it into a fun and understandable format. Ben doesn't like words of the week, but they usually bring me joy. They cover a lot of stuff inside and outside of Australia. From...Read full review »

I couldn’t listen to more than 5 minutes when Kylie was talking. She just seems dumb and annoying, which annoys me bc it seems like she’s playing a stereotypical dumb woman.

Hah! Alliteration! I found this podcast back in like 2015 by searching "lingustics podcast". I've listened to every episode since, and binge-listened to the entire back catalog back. The only thing I don't like is that since they're all in Australia I can't regularly go...Read full review »
