Individualistic white savior lens
I used to enjoy this podcast for its meditations and peaceful resets, but the last episode I could bear to hear was the one on wisdom and resilience. As the q&a revealed, so much of the advice given is so rooted in the self. I also found Tara’s language on the global south rooted in a superior white savior lens. Enough. We can do better, even alongside acceptance. “I am often struck by the dangerous narcissism fostered by spiritual rhetoric that pays so much attention to individual self-improvement and so little to the practice of love within the context of community.” ― Bell Hooks

Tara's teaching style and explanations are wonderful. Every podcast leaves me feeling like I just had a great session with a professor who is also a therapist, because she is thought provoking while also being compassionate.Read full review »

I am so grateful to have discovered Tara's podcast. I listen to her podcast everyday as well. She is a great storyteller and a patient teacher. I struggled with understanding Buddhist principles but Tara has a way of making them clear and accessible. Oh, and she's funny too!Read full review »
