Series (3) :- The solo years ‘What a great idea!’
The Abbotts (Garry & Paul) have never failed to impress and entertain with their ‘TBBSO’ podcast however in my opinion they’ve upped their game even further in series 3 with the inspired idea of a deep dive into the ‘Beatles’ solo years… Each week a lucky dip(or otherwise) of randomly selected Beatle solo tracks are discussed and rated on their comparative ‘merits’. Being a Beatles fan for 40+ years I can still genuinely say that for me there is so much ‘new ground’ to be explored here and songs I have simply never come across before (some for probably very good reasons ) so thank you Garry and Paul for being the most engaging of hosts and for this fresh exploration of music which veers between timeless classics, the downright dated, under developed ideas (the songs that could have been, the songs that could never have been) , formulaic pop and songs which would never have made it past the Beatles quality control etc etc… This is the show more than any other that proves just how much the Beatles needed each other professionally. It highlights their all too ‘human’ ‘solo output’ musical frailties (alongside the brilliance of course)and makes for fascinating comparison with their collective mythology and perceived ‘otherworldliness’ of ‘Beatledom’

More reviews of The Big Beatles and 60s Sort Out
Just started listening to this podcast and I find it enjoyable. It has been good at exposing me to Beatles solo stuff. I appreciate the hosts music theory knowledge, something I have no clue about. I enjoying learning more about the technicalities in music w/o it taking the magic away.
