Excellent interview—one of the best episodes
The officer/union leader misses/misidentifies the assignment of stimulus and response. His framing asserts that no stimulus is in play prior to the decision to resist the officers—absent force (or the legacy of a misuse of force)—what is the object of—or reason for resistance? It matters where you assign the stimulus—clearly—it matters where you “mark” the beginning of the narrative. What matters even more is that we consistently miss the precontext that is always already operating—preceding, informing, even inviting what is the too easily determination of the placement of the “once upon a time”—the choice of where to begin the story—which is always a choice. Even more the earnest proclamation of “not seeing color” lingering almost poignantly in its insistence. Staying with the conversation—both interlocutors—created so much discomfort for the listener. Thank you for allowing us to sit in a real, hard, sustained communication across difference. Thank you for depriving us of the talking point. It’s a beautiful, hopeful gift. Well done.

More reviews of The Daily
Was so sad when it was announced that Michael was wrapping up The Upshot. He is an interviewer on par with Terry Gross, imho. Loving the first two episodes of his new project already.

Thank you for this wonderful new offering. I am so delighted that this is a balm among the chaos in the media...and reinforces thought and discussion. So so happy.

I personally consider NPR Politics to be the news podcast preeminent. A strong round table of specialized voices. I'd say Daily is off to a strong start. Barbaros is a little soft-spoken for my taste and the tone rings more "long-form" than the promised 15min concentrated dosage....Read full review »
