What a pity. I so wanted a podcast of classic tales but the readers are so bad that it’s like sitting in six grade again listening to my poor friends struggle flatly through sentence after sentence in English class. Absolutely pointless.

I have been a Poddie since 2007. This is excellent. Ver informative and clearly spoken. No Whitney, nasal American accents. Great content.

Every episode is an absolute gem - very well researched and intelligently but accessibly discussed.

.
Early episodes are good when it was about specific areas of folklore. Later episodes mostly seem to be interviews with creators who’ve used folklore in their work.

Great conversations about the symbolic world and our place in it.

Ohhhh yes. This is one of my absolute favourite things to listen to. Work like this should be encouraged as much as possible. Please do continue!

I never miss an episode. This podcast is presented clearly and with facts researched and cited. Topics are covered in full with links to where you can access further information. You can rely on Mark to present his research in an accessible way. And its entertaining to boot.

I enjoy listening to this podcast and learning about folklore from this part of the world. Professionally done and entertaining you can’t go wrong if you listen.

The standard show is great and I was pleasantly surprised with the “Family Matters” portion, which I initially intended to skip over.

A little too much communist propaganda.

I love the show for the most part. However I will say I’m not a fan of the “Family Matters” Roleplaying here. It’s not necessarily bad, it just really doesn’t fit here and is pretty inappropriate at times. I know you did disclaimer it’s and all, but it just doesn’t fit the vibe of your podcast...Read full review »

Voice is personal opinion I know but I have to say the pace , tone etc, is a pleasure to listen to. Even when guests are on it’s a comfortable listen as many podcasts are too noisy and fast. Fascinating topics covered and sources are given etc. Seems to me as a ‘non academic’ to be well put...Read full review »

I love this podcast which brings folklore to life. The great rich legacy of the world's folklore given for us to enjoy. Mark Norman is the best guide through this world. Really like the straight forward nature of this podcast. Very well researched. I especially like the episodes just with Mark; I think he underestimates how relaxing and enjoyable these are. It feels intimate and adds to the sense that you’re learning these things by the fireside, or being read...Read full review »

I adore this podcast. It’s engaging, informative & thought provoking. I find myself musing over the episodes long after having listened to them. There’s also a great sense of intimacy. Tuning in, I feel as though I’ve been invited to an intimate gathering among friends.

One is lead to expect story telling: instead one gets dull waffle by presenters who are attempting to be academic and erudite about stories that they do even tell..I apologise if I have missed the point or stumbled by chance across the only poor episodes. I only managed to listen to three ,all of...Read full review »

This is a great podcast, it talks to the experts, so it's really got details and they're always more interesting than stuff gleaned from the internet. It's grounded in that research, this makes it a cut above the rest. But it's also very interested in popular culture - after all...Read full review »

IMO the best folklore podcast i’ve found. Usually very interesting episodes covering a wide range of folklore topics. The style is very understated (a good thing!) the host is well-spoken, easy to understand & there’s no cheesy sound effects or bad attempts at humour that I find can ruin this...Read full review »

A very interesting podcast. I often find that people tend to present folklore as a thing of the past, without a connection to our modern life. However, both the author of the podcast and his guests manage to show that it is still very relevant for a better understanding of the word around us.

I have such a hard time finding folklore shows that aren’t hacky, corny, or kitschy. Mark Norman is none of these things. Such a valuable resource on subjects I’ve always wanted to learn more about. I especially love his investigations of witchcraft/witches

I've found this show from listening to another, during a discussion on spectral hounds, and here, Mr. Norman gives terrific interviews with world-class guests on all sorts of fascinating topics relating to the often strange beings, beliefs, and forces of folklore. This podcast is exactly what I’ve been looking for. I listened to other folklore podcasts, but the wide range of stories, the research into many cultures and the interesting guest speakers in The Folklore Podcast are amazing! I’m very happy I stumbled across this!

I really want to love this podcast -and mostly I do-, but I find that the very matter-of-fact, un-excited way it is narrated makes it easy for my mind to wander. I find it hard to pay full attention despite myself, and this is what keeps me from giving top marks.
basandere via Apple Podcasts · Germany · 11/18/18
I have listened to just a few of these episodes so far. While I find them informative on topics of interest to me, I’d really like to hear a bit of historical background, followed by someone reading an actual fable.
