recent changes to the podcast
I always enjoy listening to the Guardian Books podcast. But for heaven's sakes, get rid of the audio "leaders" that now begin every episode. The recent episode on Latin American poetry, for example, was prefaced by two or three minutes of random sounds that included newsreaders intoning authorial obituaries, decontextualized snippets of prose and poetry, and someone playing an accordion badly. Such additions do nothing for the podcast and indeed may form an obstacle for some listeners. I, for my part, scroll past this material until I reach the point where the show actually begins. In brief, less style and more substance is warranted. Thank you!Read full review »

I subscribe to several Guardian podcasts and this is one of my favorite. As a US resident, and consumer of mainly US literature, I’m always excited to find good UK/international book podcasts. The Guardian Books podcast is just that

Great episode on ‘the canon’ with a good balance of voices, but a shame Howard Jacobson wasn’t challenged on his inaccurate statements regarding « O Levels » and the Literature taught in schools which were both inaccurate and full of self-righteous indignation based on these inaccuracies.
