PTSD is not about coping style
Bamford was hilarious and that episode was on point. My concern with Sagal's section was that Levitin seemed to not fully explain distraction vs rumination which may result in people with these issues thinking "Maybe this is my fault. If I just distracted myself more, I'd feel better." Taking breaks from processing is incredibly important but so is taking time to feel what you feel. Distracting yourself does not prevent PTSD. I would guess it is correlation and not causation, as in people with PTSD are more likely to ruminate. Having flashbacks, etc will make it difficult to not think about trauma. I cannot suggest this podcast enough. John Moe is such a great host and he gets to the heart of what those with mental illness go through. Fantastic podcast.
