Best Podcast Ever?
I'm a total linguistics (especially historical linguistics) nerd, so this podcast is right up my alley. But even if you're not, if you give it a chance (at least a couple episodes), you might very well fall in love just like I did. Kevin Stroud turns what could be a very complex, confusing, and potentially dull history of our language into something that is easy to understand and endlessly fascinating. Each chapter is crammed full of amazing facts about the origins and idiosyncrasies of English - why it's so convoluted and seemingly illogical, but beautiful in its own way. I honestly don't think I'll ever think of (or read or speak) my native tongue in the same way. I now feel so fortunate to be a native speaker of English. Kevin Stroud has taken a topic which has been done many times, but makes it interesting and fun. It has a good balance of history, linguistics and narrative style. It stands with the best I've heard in the topic.Read full review »
