Lightweight interviews from Amol Rajan
Amol Rajan is clearly very experienced and knowledgeable but this doesn't come through in his interview style which is at best lightweight; at worst he allows interviewees to go unchallenged when they say things that are clearly wrong, off topic, parroting their own agenda, or simply don't respond to the question posed. It's almost like a chat show interview with questions that set up a particular response from the interviewee as agreed with their PR before hand. There have also been times where he's taken the superficial view on a topic and pursued it that way, rather than digging down into it to explore in depth the story behind the headline. Many years listening to the excellent, and sadly late, Steve Hewlett have probably left me with unreasonably high expectations but in my opinion Amol Rajan just isn't up to the job. If you are looking for rigorous analysis of the British media landscape I suggest you move on to another podcast. I have, with great regret, unsubscribed. The only thing that saves this podcast from 1 star is the times when Andrea Catherwood sits in.Read full review »

I am so very glad I didn’t see that Clive Myrie story no matter how pleased with himself he was about it. It’s exactly the sort of thing that prevents me watching BBC News.

Great mix of provocation, opinion and conversation; Amol Rajan chairs with straight talk and character.
