Insanely overproduced
The only reason I imagine this is highly rated is because it's core is a good idea: exposing a scam. And make no mistake, Onecoin is a scam. But the podcast is mostly over produced fluff. Every episode is is mainly about the team's experience as they made the podcast. Information on the scam and how it operates and the people it affects is peppered in at 1-3 minutes segments during this sprawling tale of making the podcast. I'd say there's less than an hour about Onecoin in the 6.5 hours of podcast. Like there's dumb stuff like the narrator/journo trying to explain Bitcoin to his mum and she asks if she can spend it at Tesco and he is stumped, it does not occur to him to say there are currencies in the world that Tesco doesn't accept. They spend half an episode going to an office of Onecoin and deciding not to go in. They introduce a guy and give him 10 minutes of backstory they could have covered in under 2 minutes easily and in a single line if they wanted to. And on and on. If you're after a story of a journo team putting together a podcast this is for you. If you want info on Onecoin your time to info ratio is going to be dire.Read full review »

Excellent journalism, well produced with brilliant sound design too. What an incredible story.

It’s a good investigation, and I am interested. I desperately can’t stand the whining Arabian music that plays in between the sections

This is an interesting unfolding story and entertaining. It could be further enhanced with tighter editing (less repetition at top and tail) and dialling back the volume of the clunking ‘special’ music.
