Beware O Zombie, Beware O Vampire, For The Wendigo Cometh
Do you like Fiction? History? Fantasy? Fantasy Historical Fiction? Well then you need look no further than New Century. Set in a alternate history world where Earth was over run by humans turned feral beasts following the American Civil War, the remnants of humanity must ban together if they hope to survive and hopefully one day rebuild their world. While it is clearly takes some inspiration from Zombie and Post Apocolypse works like World War Z and The Walking Dead, New Century injects an invigorating burst of originality with its unique new monster the Wendigo. The thing about the Wendigo that makes it so intriguing and horrifying is that you can actually see how such a creature could cause an apocalyptic scenario. While a gargantuan suspension of disbelief is required for zombies, which shuffle slower than a turtle, refuse to feed on one anther yet still somehow posses the energy to end life as we know it while falling apart as they walk. The Wengio's however are not dead they are simply humans turned savage, as if the infected have had their evolution rewinded about a million years. Smart, fast and deadly it is easy to see how these creatures bring an end to the world as it was nearly 200 years ago. New Century begins with "The Cartographer's Handbook" which is the in universe text given to the Cartographers, the agents that the remaining government sends out to reunite America so they can fight back against the Wendigo. Its a combination of Zombie Survival Guide and World War Z with first hand accounts of the horrors of America's fall coupled with the story of how the Wendigo infection began, and a great introduction to New Century's world. After that comes "Secret Rooms" a smaller story focusing on a small group of Cartographers who's mission to unite America leads to them discovering that the arrival of the Wendigo may have been brought upon by something not of their world. The third story arc Tiger's Eye, pulls back the veil on just how just when you think you know what New Century has showed its hand, that you realize it has an entire deck you've yet to see.

More reviews of The New Century Multiverse
I started off appreciating it as a sort of "Civil War Z," and being glad of a new take on the zombie genre. Then I got to the end of the Handbook and was blown away. Now, with Tiger's Eye, I'm excited to see that this is nothing like the usual Zombie fare, and has so much more to explore.

In a world where the majority of new stories seem to consist of remakes, superheroes, overwrought dramas, or some combination of the three, it's hard to come across something actually new. Well, the good folks at School of Movies are out to fix that with the New Century series. The series...Read full review »

The setting and background for these stories are covered by other reviews. "World War Z set a few years after the American Civil War" is pretty spot on and is a great starting point to get a frame of what you're in for if you start listening to this. I want to leave a review on the overall...Read full review »
