Currently most of the way through “Tiger’s Eye” and absolutely loving it. I’d never listened to an audiobook with a full cast and music before so it took some getting used to, but the attention to detail here adds so much to the sense of immersion, even if it requires you to pay more attention...Read full review »

Sometimes you can tell the voices were recorded on different quality equipment. Sometimes you hear the same voice actor playing two roles in a conversation. Sometimes the sound balances to one ear or the other, so you have to listen with both your earbuds in. (That last one is more a personal...Read full review »

The setting and background for these stories are covered by other reviews. "World War Z set a few years after the American Civil War" is pretty spot on and is a great starting point to get a frame of what you're in for if you start listening to this. I want to leave a review on the overall...Read full review »

Varied and flexible in genre and tone, but always filled with relatable characters that are consistently enjoyable, New Century is an accessible and well-written fictional series with commendable themes of the benefits of communication and unity. The multiverse has rapidly become one of the most...Read full review »

In a world where the majority of new stories seem to consist of remakes, superheroes, overwrought dramas, or some combination of the three, it's hard to come across something actually new. Well, the good folks at School of Movies are out to fix that with the New Century series. The series...Read full review »

The more I listen to of New Century, the more drawn in I am. Shaw has a talent for creating fascinating worlds and scenarios, but keeping the focus of the story on the characters and how they react to those worlds and scenarios. The characters are both relatable and heroic, providing a look not...Read full review »

Many authors struggle to create one believable world, but Alex Shaw manages to create several. Wether it be the meticulously researched alternate history of post civil war America in "The Cartographer's Handbook" and "Secret Rooms", or the imaginative, yet consistent, alternate evolutionary...Read full review »

I know you are probably nervous. This looks like a lot to dip your toe into. Don’t worry, much like the MCU, if you pick up a certain series you won’t be terribly lost. I recommend starting at Secret Rooms or Tiger’s Eye but definitely listen to everything. There is so much love, passion, blood,...Read full review »

The stories of New Century are as compelling and fun as they are wildly unpredictable. While it refuses to be pinned down by any particular genre of fiction, the writing always maintains its focus on rich characters and tough moral choices. The production quality is great overall. While most of...Read full review »

New Century is a stunning audio drama with an epic arc of storytelling. I adored the Cartographer's Handbook and Secret Rooms for the reimagining of the 19th Century and smart use of narration and audio drama. Tiger's Eye is a change of pace but the development of central characters makes the...Read full review »

An immensely enjoyable audio drama series with an intricately detailed foundation of science fiction that blends horror, suspense, mystery, fantasy and a liberal dash of comedy into something quite unique. Prepare to have your mind blown.

As a fiend for history and a good tale, I’m absolutely thrilled with Shaw and Co.’s work with New Century. So far, it’s been nothing but brilliance, with some especially good voice acting from Alex and Sharon in particular. Production value’s pretty darned good, as well! Definitely worth a...Read full review »

One thing I appreciate about New Century is that every new section to the story is practically a different genre all together. The Cartographers is World War Z meets a civil war piece with slavish attention to historical accuracy. Tigers Eye is the Chanur series crossed with the Jungle Book, and...Read full review »

Remember that scene in Back to the Future 2 when Doc Brown explains alternate timelines to Marty using the chalkboard? Well Doc would need about a dozen more chalkboards to trace out the timeline for this alternate timeline. A vivid story that starts out with what seems like a typical zombie...Read full review »

New Century by Alex Shaw is a steam punk alternate history audio drama set in the wake of the United States Civil War. It has the best of different genres, from zombies to cowboys to german scientists to Tiger warriors. Great voicework and praise to Mr Shaw for creating this vast and rich universe.

I started off appreciating it as a sort of "Civil War Z," and being glad of a new take on the zombie genre. Then I got to the end of the Handbook and was blown away. Now, with Tiger's Eye, I'm excited to see that this is nothing like the usual Zombie fare, and has so much more to explore.

New Century (starting with The Cartographer's Handbook, something of a "What if WORLD WAR Z were about werewolf-like creatures and also 150 years ago?") is the story of the Reunified States of America struggling to piece together a nation torn apart by the Wendigo. These monstrous creatures -...Read full review »
