White colonialism at its finest
I'm only on episode 2, and this story is already making me want to scream, "Coloniser, get out!" It was ironic when Phil accused the locals of being racist—there's no such thing as racism against white people. I'm rooting for this family to learn a lesson that all entitled white people should experience. The narrator's tone and language seem to enable and encourage colonial attitudes. I'll keep listening to see if these entitled people get the lesson they deserve. Additionally, the white people are discussing bringing tourism to someone else’s island, assuming their colonialist mindset is what everyone wants. The story is interesting. The narrator keeps making these jokes to herself as she tells it which just sounds awkward. Does she tell jokes to herself when she’s reading a book as well?
