Description
Welcome to episode 183 with Dr Lucy Maddox is a consultant clinical psychologist, writer and researcher. Lucy has many years' experience of working in mental health, mostly in NHS and charity settings. She is an experienced lecturer, writer and podcaster, and has written for publications including The Guardian, The Times and Prospect magazine. In this episode, Lucy and I chat about her book ‘A Year to Change Your Mind’ and how ideas from the therapy room can help make life better even when we don't feel we have a serious problem. We chat about the different ways that psychology underpins everything we do, determines the decisions we make, the relationships we build and the roles we play. We discuss feeling stuck, changing environment, dealing with a critical inner voice, social anxiety and understanding anger. We also chat about how these things can ebb and flow throughout our lives and why humans often end up repeating the same patterns and behaviours without knowing it. It was wonderful to chat with Lucy and explore some of these ideas a little bit!  There are definitely some valuable lessons in this episode and hopefully it will help you to get curious about your own thoughts, feelings and behaviours.
