Solid, but a caution for wounded listeners!
Know your weakness, that is my primary warning. For some, this podcast could stumble and harm further if you aren't in the right place. It could lead to continued bitterness, anger and frustration at the injustice of it. Know your proclivities, and if you are in a place that hearing a detailed account of the Mars Hill saga would stumble you, just stay away from it. It's not necessary. This podcast is bringing the light and truth to a very dark and painful experience from my past. As a former Mars Hill member who saw these things, attempted to challenge them, and spoke up against them and was shunned and condemned (even by outsiders who never attended MH but only worshipped mark from afar) I can say it is affirming. Ultimately, it brings comfort to see how God is shining light in this very painful and dark past. Mars Hill culture continued into the churches that broke off from MH, some have grown healthier while others I would never recommend at all. Some leaders and many of the former MH members still defend Mark and swear he was a prophet, and was a martyr like figure. Many still follow him and laugh about his screaming abusive antics like it's totally cool, not realizing it is a disqualification from ministry based on SCRIPTURE. Michael Kruger from Reformed Theological Seminary, TGC, and his blog Canon Fodder has done an entire series on bully pastors and named Mark Driscoll as one of them. We need podcasts like this, because leader worship didn't go away when Mars Hill fell apart. It is still going on even in seemingly healthy churches. Makes me think of 1 Corinthians 10:12 "Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall." Even Mark described being fearful of growth and his pride. This is not just an issue that non-denom churches are at risk for, it's a sin issue in the heart of humans. Abuse can happen anywhere, pastors can be proud and arrogant anywhere, under shepherds can take advantage anywhere. God have mercy on his Bride the church.Read full review »

More reviews of The Rise and Fall of Mars Hill
This is a review of the first episode. This podcast intrigued me. As a New Zealand Christian I wasn’t aware of the background to Mars hill. It’s title indicated a potential hit-piece but CT always does a really good job at balance. It created in me real emotional whiplash- listening to mark’s...Read full review »

Other than preaching podcasts this is the best podcast I’ve ever listened to. Mark Driscoll needs to be exposed for the narcissistic bully and profane jerk he was and still is! May God have mercy on his dark soul. As someone who was an avid Driscoll listener and MH follower since before it was...Read full review »

Thank you for the great Podcast. Sad to see that Mark Driscoll has not changed and is continuing (if not worse) abusive behavior in Arizona. Hopefully those attending his Arizona church will listen to this.
